Larry Rosso is considered one of the finest
of the Master Carvers on the
Northwest Coast. For some time,
Rosso focused most of his
energies on the production
of superb bent boxes.
His steamed and bent boxes
are without equal,
carved to perfection
and of outstanding design and proportion.
Larry began carving at quite
a young age under the
expert guidance of his grandfather.
He recalls, as a child,
seeing his grandfather
carving a large canoe
and since that time cannot remember
ever wanting to do anything else.
Rosso has been fortunate enough to
have the opportunity to work with
many major artists; in particular,
Doug Cranmer and Robert Davidson.
Rosso is now creating panels
in a circular format.
Four of his four-foot panels can
be viewed in the Air B.C. Departure
Lounge, Gate A9, at the Vancouver
International Airport. This past year,
the Vancouver Stock Exchange commissioned
a beautifully carved Beaver Panel for its private
collection and featured it on their annual report.
The Deschutes Gallery is proud
to represent the work of this important Carrier artist.
