Deschutes Gallery Signs Lease In The Shops At The Old Mill
BEND, Ore. - Deschutes Gallery, which specializes in works of fine art by native peoples of the
Pacific Northwest, will relocate to a space in The Shops at the Old Mill District this spring.
Deschutes Gallery has leased a 1,600-square-foot space on the second floor of a building on the
east side of Powerhouse Drive, the "Main Street" of the District's entertainment/retail center.
Opening is scheduled for June 1, according to gallery owner Deanna L. Paik.Paik said the gallery
will occupy about 1,200 square feet of the space, while the remainder will serve as offices for
her husband Harry Paik's business, Infopak, which manufactures and sells outdoor holders
for real estate information and other printed materials.
The gallery currently is located in the Mill A building near Honker's restaurant.
The new location will be above a Victoria's Secret shop and will overlook the retail area's main
plaza and pedestrian bridge, the Deschutes River and Cascades mountains. "The gallery is named
after the river and we wanted to remain close to the river," Deanna Paik said. "We also needed
to be in a highly visible, high-end retail area that will attract large numbers of tourists as well as
local shoppers." The Shops at the Old Mill District "is going to be a real hub," she added. "People
will be drawn there for dining, entertainment and quality shopping."
Paik said her gallery specializes in museum-quality Northwest Coast native art as well as Inuit
soapstone carvings. It offers an extensive collection of carved masks, bentwood boxes, plaques,
bowls, sandblasted glass, prints and original paintings, and jewelry. Paik said the gallery also will
include a reading center furnished with comfortable seating and books and other informational
materials about Native American art. "It will have a beautiful view and will be a really nice place
to come in, relax, look out at the river and mountains and learn about
the art of the indigenous peoples of the Pacific Northwest," she said.
The grand opening of the first phase of The Shops at the Old Mill District is planned for mid-June.
The retail/entertainment center will include more than 150,000 square feet of shops, galleries,
restaurants and entertainment facilities, including the Regal Old Mill 10 multiplex cinema.
