John and Don Lancaster have been carving
jewelry for over 14 years and is their master craft.
They learned their master craft from their great
uncles the Seaweed's. They
continue to express the talent and
tradition of Kwakwaka'waka art and legend.
John is a member of the Namgis First Nations.
He began his career at the early age of 15,
under the support and guidance of his knowledgeable uncles.
Since 1982, John has worked full time creating
contemporary Northwest coast jewelry in both silver and gold.
His beautiful Kwakwaka'wakw traditional designs serve
as a testament to the talent of this dedicated artist.
Don, a member of the Namgis First Nations,
began carving at the age of 16. He watched
his uncle Norman Seaweed carve a few times, then began
carving on his own. He started out with copper,
and then quickly moved on to silver and gold.
The Lancaster brothers are very unique in their own way.
They are traditional in their artwork, it is all hand carved
and polished. No machines are used
in the carving process. Both brothers
are always trying new designs and coming
up with new ideas, always keeping with the traditional methods.
The Deschutes Gallery is proud to represent the work of this talented of the Lancaster Brothers.
